It’s crunch time here at Chez Love Muffin and I’m feeling like we need to get going! My mom’s coming out to visit in early March and staying for a month, and we want to make our guest room beautiful for her.

The furniture is “in progress,” but I’m totally stalled on the wall color. I keep changing my mind! We even offered my mom to pick the guest room wall color for her birthday. She knew better…

So here’s my crazy thought for today:

        Modern yellow bedroom

          YELLOW!

It’s one of the colors in our house palette, but an accent color in other rooms. What do you think? Maybe with crisp white and chocolate? Or should we stay away from using an accent color as a whole room color?

                wow - that’s a brave thought!
here are my suggestions… personally, I love the color Yellow! HOWEVER, to paint an entire room yellow can be quite stark and surprising, especially if you’re not used to color. my question to you is, how long do you want your quests (mother) to stay over??? haha

i find that guest rooms are either inviting, warm and cozy or the complete opposite and this is done on purpose! a crisp white room with yellow accents would be warm but an all yellow room might not be - if you decide to do all yellow you really need to first pick the perfect shade of yellow and then balance that yellow out with other complimenting colors in the furnishings, textiles and accents in that room.

i really want to see what you decide on and how you play around with it. but remember, it’s just a color - you can always change it if you don’t like it :) have fun with it!

Just found your blog! Love it!

Funny! One of my entries today was about neutral rooms with a splash of color. If it were my room, I’d paint the walls a warm neutral and then find some fabulous yellow accessories. I like to mix and match and when I get bored, move accessories to other rooms in the house, so for me (again, just my opinion) if I painted the room yellow, I would feel a little more limited. :)

Today I went to the paint store looking for some yellow paint for my living room. My living room is a very dark room with only one small (tiny) window at the foot of the stairway. No other windows to let in the light and the room is dark. I wanted to lighten up the room, but did not want white because I love color. I first looked for the Benjamin Moore “no-nonsense” color sample so I could bring it home and test it. The store did not have it so I brought home a sample of “lightening bug”. I will test it out tonight. We have medium brown leather furniture and a medium brown wood floor. I am hoping the yellow will lighten up the room.
I say go for the yellow on one wall and see how you like it. If you do, they paint all the walls yellow, or choose a very light version for the other walls.

I love yellow, but it might be overwhelming unless it is a butter yellow. Why not get paint swatches for the wall and test them out in different types of light? I never realized the impact of color in different light until we painted our bedroom–it is a different color depending on the time of day. And it dries darker than you’d expect.

                Good luck!

Well, I painted, I mean my honey painted our living room yellow. You can take a look at my blog to see one wall of it. I love it and it really brightens up my dark room.

HI Erika, I love it! I feel happy and sunny whenever I walk into the room. My desk is actually in the corner of the room by the staircase so I am in the room most of the day surfing on the web. I can’t tell you how much of a difference this color makes. This was a very dark room with only one tiny window on the south side. The two other windows are looking out into a covered 3 season porch. I am now working on bringing the yellow from the walls into the room with some new throw pillows and some yellow flowers. Even my daughter who told me not to paint it yellow was blown away when she saw it. She said I made the right choice.
