It was my mom’s birthday this weekend, and in her honor, here are images of some spaces I think she’d love.

    Blue, yellow, and white kitchen

    Blue porcelain in kitchen

    Blue porcelain and crystal

    Blue wallpapered stairwell

    Adirondack chairs overlooking water

    Happy birthday!

Greetings! I love these pictures too, especially the stove. I think that will be my next purchase. And I forgot that you have such tiny windows in your rooms. That does put things into perspective in terms of color…if you go with yellow, you would probably want to go very pale/butter to keep things as visually light as possible. I love the light blue in the stair well in one of these pictures…I am considering something along that palette for the 3rd floor. Or a light sage.

Thanks Jenn! :-) My mom loves blue and white, and traditional design that’s not over-the-top formal. And that last image… Adirondack chairs… she’s always loved them (especially when they’re accompanied by a beautiful view).

::Drumroll:: I guess it’s time to join in the digital crew.

Very nice tribute with the pictures. Speaking of pictures… looking forward to seeing your recent acquisitions.

Following up on Anastasia’s thoughts… Currently living in the “oatmeal palace,” I can say that oatmeal or very light brown is relaxing/soothing, would work well with other potential colors on the palate (your grey, black, white, and the energetic green in the office– should that remain), and will work with the existing window shutter treatments. To add some color, you could always add a smaller period bright colored chair (e.g. in the FREE KING red), to tie it together and show a pulse. Personally, I like yellow… I’d like to eat breakfast in yellow, or work in yellow… I’m just not sure I’d like to wake up to it.

Anastasia - Thanks for checkin out the pics! Partially due to the insights I received, I think I’m reconsidering the all-over bright color now. I’m still waivering though. I think that comes with the territory of being a virgin renovator… You second guess yourself all the time!

Walter Allen - Welcome! It’s about time you chimed in for all to read. Now we need to get the Love Muffin to join the digital dialog!

Greetings to Walter Allen and Anastasia, it’s nice to make your aquaintance!!

This is Erika’s mom writing who really deplores the fact that Walter Allen would not like to wake up to YELLOW! What could be sunnier and more life-giving??
Anastasia, on the other hand, seems to run on the same currant as I. The gentle blue from the stairway is so inspiring; it makes you want to soar upward.

And to dear, sweet Erika: All my thanks - and my love - for all the images ( one prettier than the other) but especially the most beautifully serene, and peaceful birthday card with Adirondack chairs, lake expanse and distant hills…..you so know what I need these days!! I taking in the images , I felt as if we were celebrating my birthday in the same space!!
